A significant milestone for you both, locating the right stylist who’s knowledgeable and experienced can be like searching for a needle in a haystack, but do not fear!
We’ve asked our community of mums where in London they recommend for that first baby hair cut and have used that, and our own experience, to put together a guide to the best kids hairdressers in London.
Cool Cuts For Kids, Crouch End + Richmond
If you want to get your kid’s hair cut and styled in a fun environment (they have Xbox and Netflix!) and maybe even add a manicure or balloon, then Cool Cuts is the place to go.
Their award-winning staff has years of experience in dealing with your little ones’ special needs, so you can be sure your child has a great time.
They also offer first haircut packages that include a certificate with a lock of hair and a picture of your child — perfect for framing or sending home to grandparents.
They also offer ear piercing, a how to plait masterclass and you can even host a hairstyle and make-up party.
It’s one of the best kids hair salons in north London.
This salon is gorgeous and exactly what you’d expect from an establishment on the King’s Road in Chelsea.
It’s luxurious without being pretentious and they’ll treat your baby, toddler, tween or teen like royalty.
Prices start at £25 for a 30-minute haircut and they offer sibling discounts.
Mini Kin also sells clothes and accessories, but their kids’ salon is something of a local institution.
They cut the hair of babies right up to teens and the salon was designed with kids in mind.
We love that they don’t care how nervous, noisy, bouncy or tricky your little one might be, you and they will be warmly welcomed.
If you can, take your pre-school children between 11.30 am and 3.10 pm, Tuesday to Thursday, for a discount of 15%.
The Standard Studio, Blackheath
If your child has curly hair you need to take them to someone who can confidently deal with their hair type.
You can’t do better than the team at The Standard Studio in SE London.
They are very popular with boys and girls with curly hair and getting an appointment isn’t easy as their books fill up fast!
It’s worth the wait though; we’ve not found anyone as knowledgeable about curly, coily and wavy hair as the team here.
They only cut children’s hair on certain days of the week so make sure you let them know it’s a child’s service you are interested in.
A fab little salon with chairs kids will love sitting in, they get a certificate (with a lock of their hair!) and a lollipop at the end.
Each cutting station has its own screen which plays a selection of child-friendly films and tv programmes to help keep the kids distracted and the experience stress-free.
We love that they’re a no judgement salon so if you tried to DIY little Jonny’s haircut at home and now it looks terrible, they promise to fix it without giving you any disapproving looks.

Grizzly Kids say they specialise in first cuts and trickly children and the mums we asked certainly agree!
Prices start at £20 for a 20 minute cut on kids age 0-3.
Crops and Robbers offer salon services to the whole family, but their speciality is children.
Kids love coming here and when you see all the facilities on offer it’s easy to see why.
They have tips for nervous parents looking for their baby’s first haircut plus a gallery of the salon to show your kid and help drum up excitement before they visit.
Prices start at £18.
At first glance, Cloud 12 doesn’t look that child-friendly, but they have lots of services for kids including a wellness centre and Kids Club.
Kids’ haircuts start at £45 for kids aged 0 to 8.
The Little Clipper, East Dulwich
Kids will love watching films while sitting in a VW Beetle car at this salon (which also offers services for adults) that has been cutting kids’ hair since 2011.
Make sure your child is on board with this haircut as you’ll be charged full price if they decline.
Prices start at £18.50 for a 20-minute haircut.
If you are located near Kensington, Trotters is one of London’s leading children’s hair salons, catering to children young and old with a simply unmatched skillset.
Whether your child is a squirmy worm or will happily sit as still as a statue, they’ll be in good hands with beautiful results.
Kid’s hairdressing appointments are 20 minutes long and each appointment costs £20.
Sally’s Children’s Hairdresser, Wandsworth
Venturing southwest towards Wandsworth Common, you’ll find Sally’s Children’s Hairdresser on Northcote Road a wonderful experience.
Established in the mid-80s, Sally’s is the kind of place where you can take your child year after year as they cater to children of all ages, including teenagers.
If your child has special needs, Sally is experienced, gentle and patient.
For the price of a brunch out, your kids can receive a haircut, blow-dry, and style while you can sit back and relax for a bit.
Sally has a selection of DVDs to watch and toys to play with to help keep young clients (and any siblings who come along) occupied and quiet.
The only caveat is that they are a real stickler for last-minute cancellations and late arrivals, so be sure to clear your schedules and be on time.
For those on the west side of town, Notti Hill is an upscale hair salon that offers haircuts and styles to children of all ages as well as teens and parents.
No more running to different salons!
Patient and extremely kind, your kids are in good hands.
Pricing starts at £10 for a fringe trim for kids aged 0 to 5.
Whether they’re one or 18, they get cookies to munch on and films to watch while they’re getting their hair done.

A wash, cut and rough blow-dry costs £14 and is for kids up to age 12 only.
One for the boys, or girls who rock short hair, nip into Barberesso for a good cut and groom if your kids are age 16 and under.
Nakad Salon’s atmosphere gives off sea vibes at first glance.
With the fluorescent light and navy-blue colour pattern, it makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into a fish tank.
The stylists will help your kids feel comfortable and talk you and them through exactly what’s going to happen.
The service often ends with a free lollipop!
Over at Verrengia, the atmosphere is dainty with a loft-style design to make you feel as if you’ve just stepped backstage at a photo shoot.

Athena Salons Hair & Nails, Islington
Take your daughter to Athena Salons Hair & Nails for a haircut that’s like visiting a spa.

A girl’s haircut starts at £34 and boys, £24.
Harrods Hair & Beauty, Knightsbridge
For the ultimate in luxury head to Harrods for a children’s cut and blow-dry.
There are no special child-centric services here, but you and your little ones could make a mummy-and-me afternoon of it with a post-haircut visit to the Harrods Café.
The experience (and it’s an experience!) includes a full consultation, cut, finish and aftercare advice and is for kids age five to 11 only.
Daniel Galvin salons offer the best hair colour in London and they’ve recently started offering kids’ cuts.
From £38 at their Kensington salon (and in Selfridges if you ask in advance) your child can have a haircut from the experts.
You can add styling to the children’s haircut if you’re off to a special event but note that it costs extra.
