Half Term at The Foundling Museum


A week of activities at the museum including the original illustrations and poems from the award-winning book The Lost Words: A Spell Book. You'll get to discover Britain’s hidden wildlife in this celebration of the natural world. 

There's also a series of free family workshops linked to the exhibition including:

Mobile Poetry

Tuesday 13 February | Sessions run from 10:30-12:00, 13:00-14:30 + 15:00-16:30

Discover the natural world depicted in The Lost Words with artist Anne Harild. Using collage, cut-out letters and card, create your own poem mobile featuring the animals and plants in the show.

The Lucky Button Orchestra

Wednesday 14 February | Sessions run 10:30-12:00, 13:00-14:30 + 15:00-16:30

Inspired by Michael Morpurgo’s new book Lucky Button, explore the musical legacy of the Foundling Hospital. With artist India Harvey, make your own musical instrument to take home and play.

Animal Dramatics

Thursday 15 February | Sessions run 10:30-12:00, 13:00-14:30 + 15:00-16:30

Animate the creatures found in the exhibition The Lost Words in this drama workshop with artist Hannah Coates. Make a mask and bring your chosen animal to life using role play and your imagination.

The Lost Gardens

Friday 16 February | Drop-in sessions run from 11:00-13:00 + 14:00-16:30

Inspired by the plans of the Foundling Hospital’s gardens on display in The Lost Words, work collaboratively to make a dream garden for the foundlings. Afterwards, personalise a plant pot to grow your own seed at home.
