Film Review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, based on the record-breaking book series by Jeff Kinney - look out for his cameo in the movie - a family road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party goes terribly off course thanks to Greg’s latest scheme to (finally!) become famous.

As we’re not very au-fait with said Wimpy Kid, we let our resident 11-year-old film critic take the reins on this one:

“Greg’s parents Sharon and Frank want him, his older brother, Rodrick and his younger brother, Manny to go on a road trip, but Greg and Rodrick aren’t too keen. After an embarrassing video of Greg goes viral he wants to change his virtual reputation. The family are supposed to go to Meemaw's 90th birthday but the kids have other plans.

The film is brilliant. I would highly recommend it because it's very good for families, who want a lovely day out. It's very humorous - and will definitely make everyone laugh.

I like that there is not a massive difference between the film and the book and that you get to see the characters come to life. I preferred Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul to the last Wimpy Kid movie as it was much funnier.

I would give the film 10/10 because it's so funny and very enjoyable.”
