best family hotel London.jpg

If you’re visiting with children, you’re probably looking for a family-friendly hotel in London and knowing which from among the hundreds to choose from can be hard.

Will noisy children garner disapproving looks at breakfast?

Does the hotel have any special activities or menus for kids?

Although we live here, we've had the good fortune to stay some fabulous hotels in the capital, so keep reading for our picks of the most family-friendly hotels in London:

Royal Garden Hotel

When it comes to families, the hotel has thought of pretty much everything including guaranteed connecting rooms, a cot if you need it, micro-scooters to borrow and explore the park, the option to have an earlier dinner (from 17:30 – all hotels should do this) in their Park Terrace restaurant and a special children’s room service menu for little ones to relax and enjoy.

With wigwam tents in the rooms for younger guests to enjoy and a London Explorer backpack (containing a water bottle, drawing kit, mini torch and map highlighting Kensington’s family-friendly attractions) we like that two adults and two children can stay in the same room.

  • Family room from £375

  • Located in Zone 1

  • Close to: London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Sea Life and the Tower of London.

The Chesterfield, Mayfair

Despite being in one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, The Chesterfield is very family friendly and has its own hotel Nanny for when you want to leave the kids with a child care professional and enjoy London as an unaccompanied adult.

We particularly like their ‘Charlie and The Chesterfield’ afternoon tea, complete with Mr Wonka himself and plenty of sweet treats as a fun twist on a more traditional afternoon tea.

As a nice touch, children under 12 receive a child size bathrobe and slippers, a printed menu with child’s name and activity colouring books and pencils when dining in the restaurant.

  • Family room from £320

  • Located in Zone 1

  • Close to: Hamleys toy shop, London's museums, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and West End theatres.

The Milestone

A luxury boutique hotel in Kensington offers nice touches for families including special beds and bedding, cots, mini bathrobes and slippers. Younger guests can have a teddy bear book and chocolate mouse on turndown.

They also have a ‘Prince and Princess Afternoon Tea’ where children can decorate their own cupcakes, sip on delicious milkshakes and enjoy all the trimmings.

Family size wise, they can accommodate up to six guests by combining two rooms or suites. The Milestone also has family apartments with their own kitchen and dining area. Some apartments also have access to their own private deck area or terrace.

  • Family room from £408

  • Located in Zone 1

  • Close to: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, The Serpentine boating lake and the Diana Princess of Wales’ Memorial Playground.

Comfort Inn Victoria

Their newly designed lobby was created with families in mind and you’ll see books and toys available for kids to use while you’re waiting to check in.  A dedicated children's menu should please even the fussiest of eaters.

Up to two children 12 and younger stay free when they share the same room with their parents if no additional bedding is required. Continental breakfast for all guests is included in the price.

  • Family room from £140

  • Located in Zone 1

  • Close to: St James’ Park, Buckingham Palace, Victoria station.

Europa House

For those looking for more of a home from home experience, try Europa House in Little Venice. Choose one of 14 spacious apartments in an elegant Regency townhouse with three acres of award-winning private gardens and plenty of home comforts.

You can stay for one night, one week, one month or one year.

The dedicated Kids Concierge offers a directory of local recommendations that cater for younger guests, starting with the kids’ playground in the private gardens.

They also offer cots, high chairs, toys, sports equipment and a vast supply of books and DVDs stashed away in the ‘Kids Only’ cupboard.

  • Short term-stay in a one bed apartment from £199 including VAT per night

  • Located in Zone 1

  • Close to: London Zoo, National History Museum, Diana Princess of Wales’ Memorial Playground and Hyde and Regent’s Park.
