While Black Friday is officially celebrated on November 29th this year, many shops try to get a step ahead of their competition by offering deals now.

Black Friday 2019: Our Guide To The Best Deals

For a retail tradition that only made it to the UK in 2010, Black Friday has already become an undeniable phenomenon.

Deal-lovers rejoice as the unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season starts with a myriad of discounts.

Break out the credit card – we’re here to help navigate the hottest deals this year.

The scoop on Black Friday

Originating as an American tradition in which stores cut prices drastically to lure shoppers on the day after the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday only became a hot shopping day in Britain when Amazon extended its deals across the pond.

The concept didn’t take long to catch on, and local retailers stepped up their discounts to compete.

While Black Friday is officially celebrated on November 29th this year, many shops try to get a step ahead of their competition by offering deals now.

Homebodies don’t have to miss out. Black Friday deals have extended their online presence, and while some retailers only offer their best deals in-store, many great deals can be found with a few clicks.

Last year, London’s biggest deals were unsurprisingly focused on electronics, and we can expect more of the same.

Sony’s Playstation 4, Bose headphones, and Dell Laptops all boasted deep discounts.

Home deals on Kitchenaid mixers and linens were another hot item, as well as smart home devices, such as the Google Home or Amazon Echo.

Here are some of the deals to keep an eye on.

Liberty London Black Friday

Liberty London

Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10am – 8pm
Sunday: 11:30am – 6pm

Liberty London tends to follow the trend of designer retailers officially snubbing Black Friday, while quietly offering a substantial discount.

Last year’s The Event Before Christmas reduced all items, both in-store and online, by 20-30%.

The event lasted for five full days, and loyalty members enjoyed double purchase points.

Beauty deals we’ll be on the lookout for include Veronique Gabai’s Cap D’Antibes Eau de Parfum, Chantecaille’s Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser, and Votary’s Cleansing Oil.

Fashion lovers will want to head straight for Isabel Marant Étoile’s Ned Fair Isle Knitted Wool Jumper or JW Anderson Mini Anchor Logo Leather Cross-Body Bag.

With deals extended storewide, we may even pick up a gift or two!

Selfridges

Hours: Monday – Friday: 10am – 10pm
Saturday: 9:30am – 9pm
Sunday: 11:30am – 6pm

As another retailer that doesn’t officially offer Black Friday deals, Selfridges markets a ‘Christmas Comes Early’ sale that is conveniently offered on Black Friday.

Last year’s event brought an 8% bump in sales, so shoppers can expect more of the same.

Selfridges emphasized convenience, with online sales matching those at their Oxford Street flagship store.

Last year’s sales offered 20% off fashion, jewellery and home accessories, and 10% off beauty, watches, wine, and tech deals.

Items on our shopping list include Stella McCartney handbags and Tag Hauer watches, where a 20% discount can mean major savings.

We’ll also be on the lookout for those items rarely discounted, such as the LARQ self-cleaning water bottle.

Harvey Nichols Black Friday

Harvey Nichols

Hours Daily: 10am – 8pm

Harvey Nichols jumped right on the Black Friday train and has become a can’t miss stop.

Offering some of the deepest discounts in London, Harvey Nichols gets one of our first looks.

Based on 2018’s Black Friday event, shoppers can expect discounts of up to 25% off all fashion, and 10% off beauty products.

We’ll waste no time heading for Proenza Schouler’s lace-up off-white leather ankle boots and Wandler’s Georgia brown leather top handle bag

As far as beauty products go, Tom Ford’s Boys and Girls lip colour made exclusively for Harvey Nichols will inevitably find its way into our bag, as well as Jo Malone’s latest Wild Bluebell scent.

John Lewis Sale

John Lewis

Sunday: 12pm – 6pm

John Lewis promises some of the best Black Friday deals, not only offering their own deep discounts but also maintaining their Never Knowingly Undersold policy, shoppers are guaranteed a fantastic price.

Last year’s Black Friday sale gave John Lewis a sales boost of over 7%, so shoppers can expect more big deals.

John Lewis is already offering early Black Friday markdowns, including 35% off Emma mattresses and 33% off fragrance and beauty products.

Last year’s sales event began the weekend prior to Black Friday and continued through Cyber Monday.

This is where we’ll be seeking big-ticket electronic items, like Samsung’s QLED TV’s and Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3.

Dyson vacuums and Apple Airpods may also see deep discounts, and savvy shoppers may find furniture prices slashed as well.

Marks and Spencer Sale

Marks and Spencer

Hours: Monday – Friday: 9am – 10pm
Saturday: 9am – 9pm
Sunday: 12pm – 6pm

Marks and Spencer is another retailer that doesn’t officially take part in Black Friday while offering extraordinary discounts at the same time.

Touting a huge clearance sale on Black Friday weekend, deals last year included up to 50% off fashion and beauty items, and 40% off furniture

While details haven’t been released yet, we have our eyes on Autograph’s Fit and Flare Midi skirt and M&S Collection’s leather crossbody bag.

No shopping trip to M&S is complete without grabbing a jumper, and Autograph’s cashmere round neck jumper will be coming home with us.

The Marks and Spencer Harriet Armchair is the perfect combination of cosy and chic, and a 40% discount makes it irresistible.
